Chihuahua breedThe Chihuahua breed is the smallest breed of dog and is named after the state of Chihuahua in Mexico from where it originated. Chihuahuas come in a variety of sizes, coat lengths, head shapes and colors. There are only really two types of Chihuahuas, the deer headed or apple headed Chihuahuas.

Their history is not clear but a popular theory is that today’s Chihuahua breed descended from the Techichi, a favored companion dog of the Toltec civilization in Mexico. Although no records of the Toltec civilization has been found before the 9th century, archeologists have unearthed dog pots thought to depict these Techichis. Dogs resembling Chihuahuas were also found in various objects from the Great Pyramid of Cholula and in the ruins of Chichen Itza. An ancestor of todayaE
