I recently got rattlesnake vaccinations for my dogs (12 year old Shih Tzu and 15 year old Lhasa). They came in 2 parts, 3 weeks apart. My Shih Tzu developed a large lump (about the size of a gold ball) with the first one, but when I took him to the vet a couple of weeks later, they said it wasn't at the injection site. So we got the 2nd round and within the next few days (this time I was looking), he had one the size of a small baseball. I took him to the vet & they extracted two needles of blood and puss & put him on antibiotics for 10 days. He's got an appetite and has no problems with going to the bathroom and hasn't vomited, but he's been very lethargic. Your advise?

Eddie's Story

My sister took Eddie, her golden retriever/poodle mix to vet for ear infection and routine check. The quack gave Eddie prescription for infection AND rabies shot. Within a few days Eddie developed hives under his arms and his paws were bloody as he chewed on them.My sister gave Eddie some benedryl in evening and vet appointment for next day.During night Eddie started nose bleed. After many expensive tests and several days the vet said Eddie had Immune Aquired Thrombocytopenia . This is an auto immune disease where the body destroys is own platelets.
The vet said it must have been the benedryl!!!!

If you have no choice but to vaccinate pets dont do it when pet's immune system is down. MY vet said that Eddie's immune system was already stressed and the vaccination probably caused Eddie's immune system to go into hyperdrive and start attacking his own body.

Over next several months Eddie was given predinisone and other drugs. The drugs didnt do to much and side effects also included incontinence. The platelets went up marginally but Eddie wasnt allowed to play with the other dogs or any exercise. He had to wear T-shirts to prevent him from tearing at his skin. He coulnt keep food down except for beef soaked bread. He finally lost function of his back legs and my sister had to make the decision to euthanize Eddie. Eddie was only 2 years old.

Is this a coincidence to rabies shot? Even my vet thinks there is a connection.

Hi Anne,

Great comments! I always love to hear from breeders who favor natural food and natural health care for the dogs they breed.

And I love the pictures of the wonderfully healthy golden retrievers on your site.

(I've emailed you about the reprint permission).

Regards,
Brigitte

Brigette,

I am in total agreement with you on this article. I tell all my customers everything you have mentioned in this letter and it feels great to have others that agree with you. . I am a breeder of golden retrievers and started taking control of my healths pets in 2006 after one of my old cockers developed an auto immune disorder and one of my goldens had an adverse reaction to a shot. I did a lot of searching on the internet and was shocked to see what my vet had not told me about the dangers of vaccinations! I also did research about the dogs diet and switched to raw in 2006 and never looked back to kibble. My dogs are the healthiest I have ever seen them be. My cocker has not been to the vet with any disorder since 2006!

I stopped vaccinating my goldens and I do titers from now on. I did get a letter from my vet to show that my cocker and one of my goldens cannot ever be vaccinated.

I also tell my new puppy owners of my vaccine protocol and the raw diet and most are in agreement and the others I don't sell my puppies too. I would love to post this letter on my web site so that any potential new customers can see that I have others to back me up. I do have other links posted as well about the dangers of vaccination.

Would you give me permission to post this letter on my site?

I look forward to hearing from you.

thank you.
